September 24, Mark Clarke
Mark Watson Clarke grew up on a farm in Western North Carolina. At an early age he was exposed to the rigor and rewards of farm life, as well as the strong community ties necessary for successful small-scale farming. He returned to the farm after college and worked for several years with his cousin, Jamie Ager, who started a successful business raising grass-fed cattle, pastured pork and poultry. He now works at a small organic gardening store in Carrboro called Fifth Season. He is inspired by the way small food systems and local agriculture go hand in hand with community and sustainable stewardship of the earth. He will talk about food and the intimate and deeply personal relationship we all have with it. He will advocate for and provide community resources on organic farming and buying fair-trade foods.
